CANNONVILLE

Building a Stronger Community One Person at a Time

Some of our fabulous seniors

I’m on a quest to update our history. When the idea came about honoring the Seniors of Cannonville I was asked to lead the memorial segment.  The thought came to me to place their names on a leaf and place them on a lighted tree symbolizing the fruit of their spirit being present with us as we reflected on their contribution to our community.

I started by making a list of all the people that I could think of that had passed. As I continued to work on the list it began to get longer and longer. I soon realized that many wonderful people and  moments had passed and we didn’t have a good way of preserving their memory.

This is where you come in. I am asking for everyone to help bring our history up to date. All we have right now is a history written by someone that didn’t live in our community and has no idea what the spirit of our community represents. It is on us to convey it and preserve it.  Let’s get started.  There are three forms below you will need to download.

Form #1:  Please download the Family Interview Questions below and begin to answer these questions for yourself and ask them to your family members whose roots are in Cannonville.  If your parents are deceased, please answer all that you can recall on their behalf.  There are 50 questions on the form. You don’t have to use them all but the ones of your choosing. I will say that all of them will make for interesting fact finding. Once your form is complete please email it to chalton@bellsouth.net. The holidays are approaching and it’s a busy time so plan on returning your form by the end of March 2021.  At some point I would like to turn the interviews into stories that we can pass on.

Form #2:  Please download the form About Cannonville and begin to add comments from your own memory about the topics suggested in the document.  Please make me aware of any important topics that I may have missed.  The intent here is to gather the historical data about these topics and their influence in the community.

Form #3:  Please download the form about  Deceased Community Members.  Please add any missing names and also fill in what they are most remembered for if you choose.  Although we don’t want to reveal any information that would be considered private, it would be nice to know their year of birth and death to determine how long they lived and influenced the community.  I would love to have a picture to go with each name.  Please note if they have any military service.

Anyone that would like to be a part of the committee working on our history preservation please let me know.  I welcome all input, ideas, and expertise.

Start looking through your photos.  They will help to generate thoughts.  I would love to have some photos, especially some of  what Cannonville looked like back in the day.  I can arrange to come scan them at some point without removing them from your home.

After the responses start coming in we’ll see how much information we receive to get started and then start asking for research assistance to learn more about certain topics.
